My Boys
One thing that is sure to happen every single time that the grandkids are together with Pappy is food. I will buy them anything they want to eat, anytime they ask for it. I don't care if it is just an hour from supper, or if we just finished lunch. I don't care if it is 'good' for them, or 'bad' for them; if they are with me, they can eat what they want, and whenever they want it.
That's just what I do. I love those food memories. I hope they do too.
These photo's are not actually linked on the same day with me. Owen in the top one finally collapsed asleep in my truck. I had him solo that day, and we went from job site to job site, and in and out of many stores running errands in between. He was a great boy. We had a good time.
The middle one was a stopover at Taco Bueno. And the bottom one is snack time of hotdogs and cookies at QT. Both of these trips the boys were with me together.
Time with my grandkids. There is nothing better. Walk on the moon? Yeah, that would take 2nd place.
I love you boys! I am looking forward to summer with you!

Treehouses: Mike Fournier Tulsa
Mike Fournier Tulsa
As a young boy growing up in a newly developing area of Kansas City, my brother Paul and I spent many weekends and summers building tree houses in the fields that were only a block away.
Our Dad had gained permission from the builders each year for us to peruse the scrap piles, and to use any scraps we deemed worthy of reuse to build our tree houses. The biggest problem was nails. We were taught how to remove nails from scrap pieces of lumber, and how to hammer them and turn them while hammering on the street to make them straight again. This was a very time consuming process. Looking back now of course, I wish that Dad would have just bought us a box of nails.
With saws, scraps, and newly straightened nails in hand, we marched to the nearest tree to build our latest and greatest tree house. Over the years, I have no idea how many we built. My guess was probably 5, as it usually took us many weeks just to build one.
The steps on the trunk were always first. And one nail in the middle is not enough. You have to find a relatively flat trunk, and use at least 3 nails to secure it strongly enough to hold our weight while repeatedly going up and down.
Next, we had to survey which branches could support our base. This is usually where the first of many arguments would arise. But, after the yelling match was over, we worked diligently to measure, cut, and nail the base boards. A few times we snared some plywood scrapes, but most of the time, the floor base was built with 2x4's side by side for as many as we had.
Then the walls. Once we had enough scraps to build a door. Never once did we have enough wood to make a roof. So, really our tree houses were more like tree forts. But, man were they fun. I remember getting home from school, and wanting to immediately either a) play baseball, or b) go to our tree house. Most days we did both. We were never inside the house. Even on rain days, if it was not lightning, we played baseball in the rain and mud, or went up in our tree house.
Now that I reflect, Dad never taught us how to build it, nor was he ever in the tree. Dad made sure we had the supplies and tools, but the knowledge for how to build it must have just been innate in both of our brains.
I had an amazing childhood. This is only a brief glimpse into one of those memories.
Which circles me around to this picture. This tree will be where my grandsons and I build our first tree house, as it is on a piece of land that we own, and Pappy is going to have a tree house that his grandkids can enjoy during their visits. Of course, I first have to build Nini's house (she has promised me a room), but not long thereafter (with our scrapes ~ but with boxes of nails), I will teach the boys the subtle nuances of weight distribution for the base floor, and support limbs for the walls. And this one will have a roof! :-)
I am a blessed man!

Grandkid Snacks: Mike Fournier Tulsa
Mike Fournier Tulsa
This couldn't be more true in our case. If you are not yet a grandparent, don't smirk; you'll probably be the same way!
Whenever Nini goes to see any of ours, be it for an hour, an afternoon, or an entire afternoon; she never leaves home without bags of snack food.
Whenever they come to visit us, they have their own specially set aside shelf area of food in the pantry just for themselves.
And of course, you know the stories of when they go out to eat with me . . . those are becoming legendary.
I love my grandkids!

Home! Mike Fournier Tulsa
.84 acres backing up to a green belt.
Mike Fournier Tulsa
This is it! As soon as we sell our other home in Brookside, we will be breaking ground for our new home on the lot shown at the top. We are super excited, and our company will be building it.
This is it! As soon as we sell our other home in Brookside, we will be breaking ground for our new home on the lot shown at the top. We are super excited, and our company will be building it.
To add to our excitement, our oldest daughter Jackie (and Steven) bought the lot right next door to us! They will be building their new home as soon as they sell another property they own in Owasso.
We will share back yards with one fence, and Steven will have a pool at his home for all the grandkids to come over and enjoy. For our large family functions, we will feed them at our place as is my tradition (I love to smoke the bbq, and cook inside as well), and then go next door for the water entertainment!
The lot on the other side of us is still "For Sale", and I would love to be able to help pick the neighbor. Let me know if you are looking to build a new home in east Broken Arrow and I will get you hooked up :-).
Plus, as an added benefit to you; Sonrise Construction will build your home, Sonrise Pools will build your gunite pool and pool house, and Sonrise Hardscaping will build your deck, patio, outdoor fireplace, and Pergola. :-). Yes, a totally shameless plug. But hey ~ it's my blog! :-)
I am a blessed man!

WP Basketball: Mike Fournier Tulsa
Mike Fournier Tulsa
One day last month, I took the boys to bowl, and play in the arcade. This is one of their most favorite activities, and is the one that eats through $20's like they were bite-size snickers....
So, we pay the machine, and WP steps up to shoot some baskets. He swishes the first 4, and stays on fire, though a few of them do rattle and bounce in; they still go in. He does not miss, hits 100% of his shots (probably 20? in a row), and scores the high score on the machine of 45; the previous high score had been 39.
Normally, it is The Natural (o'Mike) that swishes every basket on the shorter goal, but today, WP owned the court (machine), it was his!
I only have a picture of the machine, as WP refused to pose for a picture. He was beaming though, and he had his smile on from ear to ear.
He was so happy, and this machine is all he wanted to play after that, but after my $25 gift card had been emptied, he still had not beaten his high score of 45, so we called it a day. He did great all the other times he did it, but never again pulled off the coop of not missing a basket. That was one for the ages.
Great shooting WP! Great shooting.

Duct Tape: Mike Fournier Tulsa
Mike Fournier Tulsa
Leave it to my Diva's to find designer duct tape at Lowe's. And guess which kind of Pappy will actually buy it for them if they ask for it? Duh. Yep, this one.
I take them to Lowe's with me to pick up some Gorilla glue, and I walk out with designer duct tape (and the glue).
My question is this: Why does Lowe's even sell designer duct tape?! Surely there are not enough Pappy suckers out there that purchase this so frequently that it requires inventory refills.
And, on the same day . . . of course food was involved for my sweeties. Emma Jo here is enjoying donut holes at QT, and earlier asking the cashier for more soy sauce at Panda.
The cashier episode was a major step forward for my little drum beat. She is exceptionally shy, and usually would rather eat mud than ask a stranger for soy sauce. But not this day, today she was empowered. And she didn't just walk up, she lifted herself up onto the counter to make sure the cashier saw her! Way to go Spaz!
I love you girls!

Lacrosse: Mike Fournier Tulsa
Mike Fournier Tulsa
This was my 1st time to see/watch/attend a Lacrosse game. It so happened that Jared Henry was the goalie, and I had heard his team was great, and was fun to watch; so I went with Nini.
I must say, it was very enjoyable. Lacrosse is also known as field hockey, and it is played almost the identical same way. I love watching hockey in person, so fast, so furious. Lacrosse is the same too; this game went fast, and tho the players were only 10, they were already quite good at the nuances of the game.
Jared only allowed 1 goal, and his team won 8-1, and I look forward to watching them (Jack & Jared) play more Lacrosse. It was infinitely more fun to watch than soccer.
Way to go Jared Henry!
